My New Pet Seiko Watch
After having waited for years for Swatch to come out with a decent watch with a bezel, a feature that was in danger of disappearing, a friend urged me to shift my attention elsewhere. As I walked into Chronos Gateway Mall, my gaze kept being drawn to this Seiko automatic watch.
Orange Face First, my allegiance to Nickelodeon can be indirectly shown by the orange colored face.
Chuckles — A Lastikman Death
On 27 November 2007, I got a text from a friend, “I received this from my sister— ‘Ate, patay na si Lorna (Lorna is dead).’”
And then, my friend reported, “This followed right after — ‘Pinatay siya ni Byutiki (Byutiki killed her).’” Her sister must have belatedly realized how her SMS might have been misconstrued to mean my actual demise.
Starbucks RCBC Plaza Guard (Ire)
After working out at Fitness First Platinum RCBC Plaza last 23 November 2007 at around 9am I walked towards Starbucks RCBC Plaza, which was a mere 20 foot distance from the Fitness First Platinum doors.
As I approached Starbucks, I saw that the Starbucks security guard’s hand was reaching for his crotch area. Despite the fact that he saw me, he did not withdraw his hand, but let it continue its descent as he cupped his testicles and adjusted himself leisurely before opening the doors for me.
Beowulf in IMAX Theatre at the Mall of Asia
The nearest real life experience that I can compare to watching a 3D film was on a boat in Palawan when there was a full moon and the glittering stars littered the sky. I don’t know the scientific explanation for the optical phenomenon that had me thinking that one step would have me enclosed in the embrace of darkness while blinded by the brilliant jewels of the night. It was just magical…
And so was watching my first 3D film on 22 November 2007 where stars of the company logo seemed to float past my shoulder to join its counterparts on the screen, or the feeling that one could just stretch out one’s hand to touch the images onscreen.
Chuckles — Tito and I Post It
A friend of mine has a tito or uncle who can afford a car and a driver, but chooses to go around via LRT and MRT. As he showed them his stored value card, my friend remembered me and started telling him about my modus operandi.
After she related how I would record on a Post It the date I bought the stored value card and how I would write the latest balance, her tito reached into his pocket and pulled out his own wallet.
Dogeaters Manila Reviews
Three of the people I invited to write a review of Dogeaters were able to catch it during its first two weekends.
Walter Ang of Click the City observed, “For those in the audience who lived through or grew up in the 70s and 80s, the stories in Dogeaters are at once familiar yet blurred, distinct yet fractured. Watching the play becomes an exercise in gaining perspective on the events that inspired the veiled retellings onstage as filtered by time and through the playwright’s distance from where they actually happened.”
Pizza Hut Bistro Gateway Mall Cockroach (Ire)
The last time I was in Pizza Hut Bistro Gateway Mall was in September 2006 because a cockroach crawled up my shoulder. Even though I appreciate the fact that Pizza Hut Bistro management tried to make amends, the memory was just too traumatic for me to go back anytime soon.
