Ploning Voted as the Philippine Entry for the 2009 Oscars

Judy Ann “Juday” Santos at the Philippine Gala Premiere of PloningPloning hopes to be one of the nominees for the 2009 Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category, as it was recently chosen as the Philippine entry by a special committee formed by the Board of Governors of the Film Academy of the Philippines.

The five member special committee was headed by National Artist for Film Eddie Romero as chairman, and, was specifically tasked to select the Philippine entry through an elimination and voting process.

A total of four films were screened by the five member special committee: Ploning, Caregiver, Endo and Tribu.

Eraserheads Ely Buendia Rushed to Hospital During Concert

I first had an inkling that something went wrong during the reunion concert of the Eraserheads when I overheard a conversation while going home from Megamall at 12mn on 30 August 2008. A guy related to his companions that, according to a recently concluded phone conversation with his friend, the Eraserheads concert at The Fort open field wasn’t able to finish because band member Ely Buendia had a “heart attack” and had to be rushed to the hospital.
