Country Fried Steak and Eggs On the menu, it’s described as “an 8 oz. fried beef steak smothered in country gravy, served with two eggs, hash brown and two buttermilk pancakes.”
What was horrifying to discover after one bite was that processed meat was used, not beef. Moreover, the fried beef steak was so salty it wasn’t palatable at all. Thank goodness other members of our party were interested to taste it so somehow it got consumed.
Buttermilk Pancake To remove the stain of such an unpleasant culinary experience, I sampled the highly famous IHOP buttermilk pancake. To my shock, it left an after taste of saltiness. (WTF?)
I mentioned it to the manager, who suggested that my regular diet must be low in salt. I disabused her of the idea and said that I choose ketchup and butter with salt, I use fish sauce, etc.
Chocolate Chocolate Chip Pancakes What was also distressing to our family was the fact that my young nephew pushed away his Chocolate Chocolate Chip Pancakes after only a couple of bites. My niece, who also ordered the same thing, managed about a little more than half of one pancake.
As I’ve mentioned several times, our family loves chocolate. For these two people not to finish their chocolate pancakes made me scared to even taste it.
Monster Mozza Sticks My nephew was amenable to eating mozzarella sticks instead so we ordered it for him. Surprisingly, he was not able to finish off the cheese. Again, one bite was more than enough explanation. I have no idea how fried mozzarella sticks could possibly be mangled, but IHOP managed it with its strange tasting coating that erased all the vestiges of what makes mozzarella so much fun to eat.
Excellent Service and Ambience We had gone to IHOP at BGC to celebrate my niece’s birthday on 07 July 2013, and IHOP staff member Gay took note of it and led us to a lovely table. The wait staff sang the IHOP birthday song and gave her free ice cream. Moreover, our waiter Bau was accommodating with every small request. However, as my sister wryly commented, you can’t eat ambience and service.
