I still maintain that Sleepless in Seattle is the perfect romantic comedy, a blend of idealism and cynicism, melding male and female points of view, rattled off in a fast pace with breathtaking brilliance. Nora Ephron co-wrote and directed the groundbreaking film, as well as a slew of other films that I admired tremendously.
Julie and Julia, the last film to be directed by Nora Ephron, is a luminous film starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, following the travails of a blogger, aspiring author cum cook who attempted all the recipes in Julia Child’s book — Mastering the Art of French Cooking. 1994 film Mixed Nuts, with an ensemble that includes Steve Martin, Juliette Lewis, Madeline Kahn, Rob Reiner, Rita Wilson, Anthony LaPaglia, Liev Shreiber, Rita Wilson, Parker Posey and Jon Stewart, is always a delight that makes me stop and watch it on HBO Asia whenever it comes on. And, of course, When Harry Met Sally is a classic, with its unforgettable fake orgasm scene. Nora Ephron wrote the romantic comedy’s screenplay for director Rob Reiner.
Director, producer, screenwriter, novelist, playwright, journalist, author, and blogger Nora Ephron passed away from leukemia on 26 June 2012 at the age of 71.
