Does fantastic acting genes run in the family? A part of me suspects that it does in the Fanning clan. Dakota Fanning has impressed audiences ever since her debut in I Am Sam. Now, her younger sister Elle Fanning stars in Phoebe in Wonderland, a “whimsical tale of a young girl who struggles to follow the rules.”
The great depth and natural acting of Elle Fanning is just mesmerizing as I watched Phoebe in Wonderland on Star Movies on 18 July 2010. What makes it even more irresistible is the use of children’s theater to partially tackle the subject of Tourette’s syndrome.
The last scene wherein the children decide amongst themselves to continue rehearsing despite the absence of adult supervision is particularly touching for it reminds me of the work that I have done, together with my group of teachers at the annual summer Playshop workshops, wherein children have proved that dedication and theater discipline can be totally understood, learned and practiced even at such the young ages of 5-7.
