8 Smart Reasons to Choose gohotels.ph

With my mom and aunt home from the US, I had to stay in a hotel while they stayed in my condo. My sister recommended a new one where room prices ranged between Php 600-1,000 (prices can go lower or higher depending on time of booking).

With prices considerably lower than the usual rates, I wasn’t expecting much from gohotels.ph at Cybergate Plaza EDSA corner Pioneer Street (next to Forum Robinsons Mall) even though it’s spearheaded by the Robinsons Land Development. Happily, I got much more than what I expected and found that the ‘8 Smart Reasons to Choose gohotels.ph’ advertising line was pretty accurate.

Quality Beds I requested for a queen size bed in a room opposite from the side facing EDSA. Surprisingly, the noise from all the vehicles plying EDSA could hardly be heard as I relaxed on the firm bed that had two fluffy pillows and two curved pillows that support the neck (I think they’re called chiropractic pillows).

22″ LCD TV There was indeed a LCD TV facing the bed that featured Destiny Cable channels. I had a lot of fun getting acquainted, in particular, with the FOX channel, which featured shows such as Criminal Minds and Family Guy.

Wi-Fi Access This must be the only feature that I am dissatisfied with, mainly because you have to go to the lobby area in order to access the Internet.

Although there are comfortable nooks that have tables, chairs and electrical outlets for the gohotels.ph clients, one has to contend with other internet users who are unaware of certain courtesies, such as using headphones while listening to their playlist or keeping their voices to a certain level while hanging around with friends and working on their laptops.

Moreover, the Wi-Fi connection can be unpredictable. On the early morning of 05 Sept 2010, for example, I had to scout around to locate a signal, and, some sites were suddenly classified as ‘Not Found,’ which is very strange because they’re very popular (e.g. twitter and Entertainment Tonight). Very frustrating when you need information to write.

Hot and Cold Rain Shower Two bath towels, a sachet of shampoo and one bar of soap are provided in the shower room. The showerhead is the rainhead type, i.e. overhead, so it’s a lot of fun. A handheld one is available as well.

The toilets have the full and half flush options. There’s an exhaust fan to clear the air. A full length and half mirrors are installed.

Safe and Secure A safe is available for one’s valuables inside the room. The standard latch and bolt keep the door firmly locked, although a roaming security guard would be a reassuring sight.

The gohotels.ph room card key also doubles as a way to enter the premises by swiping it in the machine beside the hotel doors, thus, limiting access to guests.

Convenient Location and Access to Transport There’s a fixed rate taxi service available at the gohotels.ph lobby, but, metered taxis can be easily hailed on EDSA. The MRT Bonifacio station is walking distance from the hotel. Buses and FXs also regularly pass in front.

If you’re coming from the north, you can go to the northbound lane by going down the Guadalupe exit and transferring to the other side.

Parking is available at the basement as well. The security guards are very courteous and alert no matter what time of the day it is. I’ve come in at 0500, 1000, 1730 and 2300.

Fun and Friendly The gohotels.ph front of house staff at Cybergate Plaza is very helpful and accommodating, from inquiries about which restaurants are open late at night to trying to get a metered taxi for you since the fixed rate taxis are all unavailable.

I would like to thank my sister, Weng Lopez, for making all the arrangements for my stay at gohotels.ph and picking me up at the airport at 0430 on 03 September 2010 so that she can escort me personally to the hotel. :D
