BPI Gets Rid of Standing in Line Queus (Eye)

A visit to a Bank of the Philippine Islands branch in Cubao on 03 September 2010 revealed that square ottoman pieces were now occupying most of the space in front of the bank tellers. My surprise must have been quite apparent because the security guard immediately led me to a screen and urged me to press the screen buttons for further instructions.

It seems that computerization has removed the need for queues. After choosing the correct buttons and answering queries as to the type and amount of transaction that I wanted to do, the machine released a number on a piece of paper.

Seated with the piece of paper, I waited for my number to appear on a screen. When they jumped my number, I merely approached one of the tellers, who immediately handled my transaction.

The only downside to this computerized system is that it may intimidate some clients who are not familiar and/or comfortable with technology.
