Fitness First Capital Tower Instructor Shouts at Me (Ire)
Thanks to the advice and help of GX Supervisor of Fitness First Paragon, Naila, and Fitness First Cathay Front of Desk Manager, Azilah, I was able to request on 10 June 2010 for a call from GX Supervisor of Fitness First Capital Tower — Julian.
Julian called me on my landline on 11 June 2010, and I narrated the ff.:
I had attended the early morning Body Pump class on 10 June 2010. Although the instructor demonstrated charisma, good vocal projection and knowledge, he did two things that, for me, were unwarranted.
1) He kept harping on the weights I was using. Although he did not refer to me directly, it’s obvious he’s talking about me.
2) At one point, he raised his voice and actually shouted at me, “Look at me! You’re doing it wrong, girl!”
My thoughts on the matter:
1) Using Heavier Weights The instructor doesn’t have the time to interview the class participants’ health history. He has to trust his students to have a reason for choosing the weights that they use and not that they’re lazy to workout or something.
For example, in my case, I have asthma, knee pain, and my job is physically demanding so I can’t workout intensely in class when it’s a workday. And, simply put, I don’t have the strength to carry the much heavier weights.
2) Body Pump Is Simple Since I don’t wish to sustain any injury, I have made sure that I have the anatomical knowledge and correct technique while working out.
And, since Body Pump has simple choreography, I have found that all I need to do is listen for the cuing, without the necessity of looking at the instructor. Besides, I like looking at the sky and watch the sunlight reflecting on the water in the pool.
3) Professional Manner During Feedback When making corrections, is there a necessity to raise one’s voice? Although I’m open to being corrected, I get rattled when somebody shouts at me and I also feel myself resisting when somebody’s unprofessional. In short, I don’t respond well.
GX Supervisor of Fitness First Capital Tower Julian readily agreed with me and promised to talk to the instructor in question.
