Les Ballets Grandiva Men In Tutus Pay Tribute to Female Ballerinas

Thanks to my mother, my sister and I were exposed to classical ballet at an early age, thus, I have seen male ballet dancers who were so lyrical in their movements that their female partners were put to shame; but, that is not the case with the performances of Les Ballets Grandiva Men In Tutus on 23 January 2010 at the Esplanade Theatre in Singapore

The male dancers did not hide the fact that they were doing parodies of their female counterparts, and were intent on keeping their elegant skills to a certain degree to maximize the comic effects; yet, while doing so, managed to pay tribute to the hardships of the female ballerina, who take on the torturous task of donning pointe shoes while appearing graceful as swans onstage.

The famous Dying Swan parody of Les Ballets Grandiva, currently performed by only three men in the company, reminded me of the heart stopping moment when I saw prima ballerina assoluta Maya Plisetskaya perform the same piece at the Cultural Center of the Philippines
