Chuckles — Yes I Am Filipino (Part 1)
During a break, an American co-actor idly asked, “Lorna, are you Filipino?”
An odd question that came out of nowhere, true, but, I immediately replied, “Yes, yes, I am Filipino.”
He explained, “Somebody mentioned that there was a Filipino in the cast, and, I didn’t know who it was.”
I started laughing. Not at what he said, but, with the realization that when I confirmed my nationality, I had stated it with unmistakable pride. Being in a foreign country makes you more aware of your own birthplace and how you feel about it. Despite its foibles, I am definitely proud to be a Filipino.
