How Zombieland Did Not Deteriorate Into a Cliche

A Witty Script with Surviving Zombies Rules A film about zombies can fall into so many traps. And, although, Zombieland had the requisite gore and stumbling half-dead bodies, scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick made sure to inject humor from the very beginning, starting with the rules.

I think everyone went out of the theater remembering at least a couple of rules on how to survive zombies, such as, cardio, double tap, check the backseat, put on your seat belt, limber up or don’t be a hero (not followed in the end).

The tongue in cheek rules set the tempo and tone of the film, where a suspension of disbelief would be quite helpful as one literally goes on a wild ride with the Zombieland lead characters.

The Presence of Woody Harrelson One of those lead characters is played by Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson, whose antics as Tallahassee, a wild spree killer of zombies, are a perfect foil for the rule bound character of Columbus, effectively essayed by Adventureland star, Jesse Eisenberg

An Adherence to Friends and Family Zombieland takes a new stab at the world of zombies, but, is grounded in humanity by the ties that bind friends and family, thus, making it possible for the audience to connect with a post-apocalyptic world of zombies.
