Lynn Sherman Learns W!ld Rice Beauty and the Beast Role in 5 Days

A SMS from theatre friend Leah Reyes alerted me to the fact that Lynn Sherman was in the Singaporean W!ld Rice production of Beauty and the Beast, causing what was a half-formed decision to watch the pantomime into a full blown one.

Thanks to W!ld Rice staffer Isaac, it was arranged with Senior Marketing Executive Ellen Ng for me to interview Lynn Sherman right after the 2.30pm performance on 05 December 2009, where I got details as to how she got cast as Vacula Contessa in Beauty and the Beast

“What happened was I was here just to watch Jake Macapagal in Victor Victoria, and, I did; but, in the process, one of his co-actors, Daniel, was being interviewed by Hossan, the director [of Beauty and the Beast]. And Hossan mentioned that one of his actors is sick and they’re looking for somebody to take her place. And [Daniel] said, “Well. one of Jake’s friends is here.

So, five days before they opened, I jumped in.

Although Lynn Sherman was thankful that the stress factor was “highly alleviated by the kindness” of the actors in the W!ld Rice production of Beauty & the Beast, she still admitted to having the jitters, especially on the first two performances of the beloved fairy tale.

By the way, the super guapo voice singing in the background during the interview is none other than Filipino-Aussie actor RJ Rosales, who played the Beast to the Beauty of Emma Yong

Beauty & the Beast will run at the Drama Centre Theatre in the National Library of Singapore till 19 December 2009.
