How Did SingTel Know I Am A Filipino
When I signed up for SingTel, I received this SMS in English on 05 November 2009:
Thank you for using SingTel Prepaid Mobile. Customers who stay longer than 3 months willget 8-15% Loyalty Bonus for every top-up.
On 28 November 2009, I received a SMS in Filipino informing me that the offer has been rescinded:
Dear kostumer, ang kasalukuyang Loyalty Bonus Program ay titigil na mula 30 Nov 2009. Asahan ang aming mga bagong handog sa Dec 09. Para sa inyong kaalaman, hindi aalisin ang inyong nakreditong loyalty bonus. Salamat sa paggamit ng SingTel Prepaid Mobile.
There are two possibilities as to how SingTel presumed I am a Filipino.
One, when I went home to the Philippines, the system detected my destination and noted it. As a matter of fact, I was automatically put on roaming for text messaging. However, this seems unlikely since one can’t presume a subscriber’s nationality by location alone.
Two, when I bought my SingTel SIM, my passport details were required. What I thought was information being solely submitted to the Singaporean government may be incorrect. SingTel may also have access to the information.

hey, i’m from manila and moved to singapore last month. i think i know the answer to your question. it’s because whenever you purchase a singtel prepaid sim card (i’m assuming you bought a prepaid sim card just like me), they will ask for your passport and they will input your passport details in the computer.
