Undoubtedly, it’s a different character, but, the resemblance is there. Matt Damon plays Mark Whitacre, a FBI informant who turns out to be spinning some stories of his own, which the agents find out belatedly in bits and pieces, throwing them into total confusion.
Matt Damon performs in the film The Informant with a heavier heft (pounds put on deliberately), a mustache, black rimmed glasses and an innocent charm that one is totally thrown off when it’s revealed slowly that he’s lying, much like his character Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley, but, with no murderous conclusion.
