Globe Roaming SMS Advisory
I was the only one among the Pinoys who flew to Singapore who did not bring a cell phone, which was probably a very strange thing to do. My reasoning was based on the fact that the Internet is readily available anyway, plus, I had the impression that roaming charges were quite steep.
However, during my short visit to the Philippines, a friend berated me for not bringing my Globe phone and not putting it on roam mode. She recounted that it’s one of the cheapest ways to keep in touch with family and friends who are out of the country since all the senders based in the Philippines can still text me for Php 1, and I would receive the SMS for free. Of course, everyone understands that I would not reply via SMS, but, rather through email or not at all.
The doubting Thomas that I am meant my friend had to accompany me to a Globe Center, in my case, the one in Gateway Mall, to ascertain that her information is correct. Indeed, her information turned out to be true.
What was necessary to remember was to maintain a balance of Php 100, and hope to God I don’t receive a missed call, which would be charged to me at an estimated Php 60. So I’ve taken the chance that no one will and put my Globe phone on roaming, ready to receive SMS from the Philippines.
Thanks to the Customer Service Representative at Gateway Mall, I am now registered and have received the following messages from 2884
