Chuckles — Polvoron and Banana Chips Not Allowed in Australia
As I mentioned that Goldilocks Polvoron, a milk and sugar concoction, was easily available in Singapore via the Filipino shops in Lucky Plaza at Orchard, my friend was reminded of an incident at the Sydney Airport when she went to Australia for a month long series of lectures.
In preparation for her meetings with various groups across Australia, my friend brought a 10 kg box of assorted dried fruits and candies.
The Australian customs officer asked her to open the box so that its contents could be inspected. As he went through the treats, he asked specifically for the Filipino favorite, presumably having confiscated a lot from Pinoy travelers, “Are you sure there’s no polvoron in here?”
My friend confidently replied, “There’s none. We were informed that dairy products are not allowed to be brought into Australia.”
The customs officer replied, “Then you should also know that banana chips are also not allowed.”
