Jennifer’s Body Film

Seeing that Jennifer’s Body was still showing at The Cathay near Orchard on 08 November 2009, I dropped my plans to check out some notebooks and headed into the theater instead to enjoy the sophomore effort of Oscar Award winning scriptwriter Diablo Cody
Although this may have been touted as a Megan Fox Film, the actor who truly shone is Amanda Seyfried through her characterization of Anita “Needy” Lesnicki. Megan Fox, who played her sexy BFF Jennifer Check, was unable to bring out the complexity of the relationship and emotions that she felt for her BFF, thus crippling the film in its intent to give a glimpse of the myriad possibilities of female relationships.
Moreover, the directorial vision of Karyn Kusama was too graphic in its depiction of the “eating scenes,” thus, lessening the suspense and horror factor that could have made the film truly spectacular. At least, the pool scene in the end showed some restraint.
Nevertheless, the snappy dialogue of Diablo Cody and the luminosity of the performance of Amanda Seyfried made it truly a worthwhile film to watch.
