Menchu Lauchengco Yulo Takes on Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd

Menchu Lauchengco Yulo has been a fan of Stephen Sondheim for years, therefore, it would be an understatement to say that the Repertory Philippines production of Sweeney Todd is a dream come true for her and fellow thespian Audie Gemora

The well-respected musical theatre actor will take on the role of Mrs. Lovett, a character played by Helena Bonham Carter in the Tim Burton film. I think it would be safe to say that Menchu Lauchengco Yulo will give more justice to the notes of the songs of Mrs. Lovett. She laughingly observes regarding Sondheim’s music, “When you think you’re singing it right, that’s when you’re off. And when you think you’re off, that’s when it’s right!”
