Chuckles — Speaking Spanish in Everyday Life

I had been attending daily Spanish classes for three weeks when I told my classmate in Instituto Cervantes about a Spanish “episode.” After I had paid for my transaction a couple of days beforehand, I said to the sales clerk, “Gracias (Thank you).” I found myself giggling afterward. I had uttered the Spanish word without thinking.

But, it seems I was not alone in experiencing a Spanish “episode.” My classmate related how she was listening intently to the speaker in a seminar that she attended recently when her friend nudged her. Confused, she asked why. It seems she had been replying to the lecturer’s questions with “Sí, sí (Yes, yes).”
