Mercury Drug Ali Mall Cashier Insensitive Comment (Ire)
I bought a pile of medicine on 15 October 2009, such as 10 boxes of one kind, 8 of another, etc. I was literally buying enough asthma and allergy medicine to last me for a year, since I was going to be out of the country for that period. I deliberately went to the Mercury drug branch in Ali Mall for two reasons:
First, Mercury Drug Ali Mall has been part of my life for at least ten years, since it is the nearest one to my abode. I routinely buy my medicine there, and I have seen drugstore clerks become managers, etc.
There is an emotional attachment since the establishment has provided the necessary maintenance medicines that have enabled me to enjoy an active lifestyle. I only felt it fitting that for an important endeavor such as the one I am embarking on that I should get it from Mercury Drug Ali Mall
The second mundane reason is that there is a promo ongoing at the Araneta Center.
However, my efforts to bring my business to Mercury Drug Ali Mall were scoffed at by cashier Chlo, who, with a slight sneer on her face, questioned drugstore clerk Mike regarding the small pile of medicine, “Ang dami-dami niyan! Kanino ba ‘yan? (That’s a lot! Whose is that?)”
As I told manager Pinky, it’s a very insensitive remark to make and Chlo should be reminded that there are emotional aspects from being sick and should be careful of what she says, especially when she is within hearing of the clients. Thankfully, Pinky immediately understood and promised to speak with her.
For how was I to explain the anxiety involved regarding whether I would be allowed by airport personnel to bring the necessary medicines, that there is a fear that I might not be able to replenish it at the tail end, and that I met with my doctor several times to prepare for the trip ahead? Buying medicine is no simple task for some people such as I, and to denigrate the act is just insensitive for a member of the medical profession.
