Casual Acts of Police Arrogance in Manila
I was in Chowking Masagana TM Kalaw in Manila on Friday, 18 September 2009, around 7.30-8.30am where I witnessed two very casual acts of police arrogance, which, I’m sure, will measure in the lowest rating of the barometer.
I Want to Order from Where I Want One police officer, dressed in a uniform of a dark blue short sleeved button down with fine stripes, wanted to make additional orders.
The problem was, he was already seated and didn’t bother to go up to the counter to make the order, so the Chowking cashier had to leave her station a couple or more times so that she could answer his query, take down his order, go back to request for the take out to the kitchen, and then take the payment and give the change to the customer.
Fortunately, there were no other customers at the time.
I Want to Sit Where I Want Another police officer, wearing a light blue collared shirt with Manila’s Finest embroidered on the sleeve, came in with a companion.
After ordering, they searched for a suitable place to sit. Once they chose one, they sat down. The problem was, there was a backpack in the space, indicating that someone was already going to sit there. The police officer moved it towards the next table.
When the owner saw what happened, he got his backpack and moved somewhere else, his hard face showing exactly how he felt. There was no apology or an offer to transfer to another table from the police officer and his companion.
