The Considerate Pedicab Driver (Eye)

It was raining very steadily on 11 September 2009, enough to cause low level flooding and puddles to form on the streets of Manila, enough to cause me concern that my favorite dance boots will get soaked and be damaged forever.
From the LRT United Nations station, I resolved to ride a pedicab to avoid any possible watery encounters.
I was very impressed with my pedicab driver for four reasons. First, although he did not know where Instituto Cervantes was, he knew where Casino Espanol was, which was right beside my destination.
Second, he charged me a reasonable rate of Php 20, although he could have probably have demanded for more because of the rains.
Third, he advised me to put up my feet before we reached an area where the water was sure to go through the floor of the pedicab, thus, making sure I didn’t get my feet and shoes wet.
Fourth, since there was a big puddle in front of the Instituto, he made sure to go beyond it so that when I step off the pedicab, my shoes would be dry.
All for Php 20! Muchas gracias!
