USA Today Female Columnist Slams Erin Andrews USA Today reports that one of its own has tweeted her reaction to the controversial peeping tom incident that involved ESPN reporter Erin Andrews

USA TODAY columnist Christine Brennan has gotten a strong reaction to her postings on her Twitter account with the tweets linked to Facebook.

Tweeted Brennan:
Women sports journalists need to be smart and not play to the frat house. There are tons of nuts out there.

Erin Andrews incident is bad, but to add perspective: there are 100s of women sports journalists who have never had this happen to them.

Ally McBeal vs. The Judge By some coincidence, the latest Ally McBeal episode showing on cable channel ETC focused on a charge against the TV series lead by a judge. The complaint was stated to be obscenity for wearing ultra-short skirts in his court room, and, thus, undermining the credibility of the court.

When Ally McBeal, portrayed brilliantly by Calista Flockhart, refused to follow his directive, she was thrown into jail. During her hearing, she hurls an insult at the judge quietly, “You’re a [male chauvinist] pig.”

In her defense, Nelle Porter, played by Portia de Rossi, reminded the judge that women are besieged by the prejudice that beauty and brains cannot co-exist, and are continuously expected to play by “men’s rules” in the professional world.

She expressed her admiration for Ally McBeal’s courage to wear her short skirts, when she herself cannot even let her hair down or remove her jacket for fear of being perceived as a “bimbo.”

And then she chided the judge that this kind of prejudice can be expected from some quarters, but, not from a judge.

Nelle Porter’s clear argument won Ally McBeal her freedom.

And, just like in the judge’s case, I am taken aback that a female professional would attack another in the same field. And, although USA TODAY columnist Christine Brennan tried to clarify her words with a longer statement, I’m afraid that I think that her earlier declaration on her twitter account is her gut reaction to the situation, which, if that is the case, makes it very disturbing indeed.
