Drew Barrymore Makes Directorial Debut
The little girl who enchanted the whole world in the Steven Spielberg alien film E.T. has graduated from actor – producer to director. Drew Barrymore is set to premiere her directorial film debut entitled Whip It
Groomed for local beauty pageants by ambitious and haughty mother, Bliss has no clue where her life is going. But, that’s all is about to change. One day, she discovers an underworld roller derby league. Impressed by what she is seeing, the misfit 17-year-old girl then tries out to join a team named the Hurl Scouts under the name of Babe Ruthless and finds her true self along the way.
Oscar Award nominee for her work as strong willed pregnant teenager Juno, Ellen Page stars as Bliss in Whip It, while Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden plays her mother and Academy Award nominee Juliette Lewis is Bliss’ roller derby nemesis. Drew Barrymore joins her impressive cast as Smashley Simpson, another denizen of the underworld sport.
Whip It is scheduled to open in the US on 09 October 2009.
