How GMA 7 Discovered Carla Abellana for Rosalinda

During the lunch break of the Rosalinda taping on 24 June 2009, GMA contract star Carla Abellana related to me how she was “discovered” by GMA 7.

Carla was already working for a corporation after graduating with a Psychology degree from La Salle when the fates brought her and GMA 7’s upper management together. She was attending a friend’s wedding when she met the powerful executives who tried to persuade her on the spot to consider being a GMA star.

Although she’s from a celebrity family, being a granddaughter of “Delia Razon, great LVN beauty of the late ’40s to mid-’50s,” and daughter of former heartthrob Ray ‘PJ’ Abellana, her upbringing was strictly away from the celebrity scenario, and focused on her studies, which made it easy for the mestiza beauty to say ‘No’ politely.

However, when GMA 7 sweetened the pot and offered her the Rosalinda role, it made her pause, and she sought the advice of her mother, whom she was surprised to hear urging her to take the chance and find out what may be in store for her as an actor since she’s already finished with her schooling.

Persuaded even more by the fact that she’s young with no commitments, Carla Abellana decided to follow her mother’s advice and plunged into a three year contract with GMA 7, which promises her at least two projects every year.

Carla Abellana is very much aware of how blessed and lucky she is being given a role that so many others have been longing for.

Directed by Maryo J. de los Reyes and Gil Tejada, Rosalinda is set to premiere on Philippine television on 06 July 2009.
