In Defense of Sugus Legaspi the Alleged Clown From Hell
On 12 December 2008 I wrote an email to actor and children’s party host Dolly Gutierrez.
Hey Dolly. I put the Elen Dy email in spam without reading it. However, your name caught my eye when you responded immediately. I’ve heard, of course, regarding someone on the case of Sugus, but, this is the first time I’ve ever actually read something. Pretty vicious.
The Clown from Hell Email I was referring to an email that I received with the subject title of Clown from Hell, which, by the title itself, was quite suspicious in the sense that it was inflammatory. Upon perusing it, a certain Elen Dy accused Sugus Legaspi of molestation and perverted acts, and the excerpt below is actually one of the less malicious allegations.
My bad experience happened in March this year 2008 when I threw a party for my son at a clubhouse in Greenhills in San Juan City. Guests observed that this host Sugus was always staring at my other kid, my daughter who is 10 years old. During parlor games, she was touching the hair of my little girl, the yayas present that time reported.
What came as a shock of my life was when after the party, behind the backdrop, this host unzipped his pants and showed his “birdie†to my daughter and was signaling for her to touch it. My daughter ran screaming but when I called his attention, he appeared to be innocent of the crime.
I sent him away at once. I reported the matter to the police at once and had file a case against this immoral person. Case is now with the trial court.
The Response of Sugus Legaspi Sugus Legaspi, who I recently saw at the Virgin Labfest 5 auditions, wrote an email in his defense six months later on 15 June 2009. This is also an excerpt from a very detailed email.
Looking at the contents of the letter, I cannot help but be amazed at how creatively structured the story was made. For the record, allow me to state that the incident mentioned in the email is simply NOT TRUE. IT DID NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE, FOR STARTERS, I DO NOT KNOW WHO THIS “ELEN DY†PERSON IS. She was never my client and at that time the incident supposedly happened, I have never hosted a party of a child of one “Elen Dyâ€. There may be persons with the same name who actually exist but the “Elen Dy†in this email is somebody I do not know, let alone hosted a party for. The email is obviously BOGUS – invented by the perpetrators of this despicable act.
There was also a mention in the “Clown from Hell†email that a case against me is still pending in court for having allegedly done the perverse act. Which court was it filed? How come I never received any summons nor was I even arrested? I never had to go to any court to defend my side. I never knew about this case BECAUSE NOTHING WAS FILED AGAINST ME IN ANY COURT WHATSOEVER. I have attached my NBI clearance where it is stated that I have no derogatory record. It was issued this June 8, 2009. THIS IS MY SECOND PROOF. If there is indeed a case pending in ANY court, then I would have not been issued my clearance.
I Dismissed It As Rubbish Honestly, I did not take the Clown from Hell email seriously because I am a children’s party host and have worked with Sugus Legaspi for about a decade already in numerous private parties and events.
I personally have a strong aversion for sexual harassment, and, if it’s perpetrated against kids, I will be the first to report any person and make sure said person never works with children again. Such is NOT the case here, however, and I am NOT convinced of the allegations of molestation.
Nevertheless, it is my opinion that the perpetrator of the accusations is fueled by passion, misplaced though it may be, and will continue to do so until halted, perhaps legally.
Although Sugus has written that the email will be the first and last time he will respond to the allegations, he also mentioned that his family has been subjected to two years of harassment and character assassination. I think the situation should bear looking into. If there is any legal means of halting such malicious behavior, then I strongly suggest that they be explored.

Good evening po. Nakasama ko po si Sugus sa catholic community na SOLV. Tumiwalag na po siya, matagal na dahil di po niya nagustuhan ang ibang teachings ng community. Di po ako manghuhusga dahil iba iba po ang pagkakilala natin kay Sugus, lalo na’t ang tao ay nagbabago sa paglipas ng panahon. Debbie, tawagan nyo po ang mga party planner. Haha…Sugus…a molester, a child at that huh? I am lucky to have a friend like Sugus whom I have known since 1989, more like a brother to me actually, though I have lost touch with him for a while now. Well, just my two cents for those who dont know him, consider yourself lucky if you are friends with this guy, never a dull moment and would extend a helping hand without you asking for it. Will definitely go out of my way defending him knowing very well his true gentlemanly character.

Hi Ronald/Sugus. Yup, yup, i did! Those are just my views and observations. I got your email addy from my friend, Sansan, mommy from Room 6. I told them to stop passing around those emails to SPCP parents. Anyway, I won’t need to write to you anymore, i will just introduce myself to you in school; if my trip to Dumaguete won’t push through, i’d say Hi to you this week.
If you need to confirm, write me a note thru my gmail account use the same username as my yahoo and add @gmail.com… i will reply to you. I do not like anything bogus, any lies and pretenses for that matter.

My apologies for asking because with all the bogus internet accounts in my name and the bogus email addresses they use to smear my reputation, I need to know if the email did come from you.

I do not personally know this Sugus. I am a parent of SPCP where the daughter of Sugus goes to school. I received the same email from another parent and another one apparently written by a detractor. I am a mother who will die if my daughter gets molested; am a wife who doesn’t want to be a victim of my husband’s infidelity and am a businesswoman who would not tolerate usury and kill people of high interests in this time of financial difficulty. This man may not be perfect but we are not in the position to judge and condemn this person. His being in a troubled marriage isn’t even our business. I hope he settles his conflict with whoever is doing this to him.

i have been friends with sugus legaspi since the 80s. while it is unfortunate that i’ve lost touch with him since 2002, i must say that sugus is a very respectable person and is incapable of doing such a thing. it’s amazing how people take advantage or misuse the internet as a means to slander and defame a person that one dislikes or does not agree with their beliefs. if a person took the approach of slandering another person in public or the workplace — this would be considered “harassment” and would be held liable to a certain degree, and it should be considered inappropriate behavior in the cyberworld as well. i hope that this eventually dies down with no permanent damage to him, his family and his career.

I’ve also known Sugus even before this has happened, and I do recall that the harassment began sometime at the beginning of TP’s 2007-08 season. A whole bunch of us (TP staff, Actors Company and friends) were also receiving text messages from several anonymous mobile numbers about him and his supposed negative demeanor (mostly adultery) back then.
