Socialite Life reports that on 06 June 2009, the day before the Tony Awards, lovebirds “Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal spent some quality time together in New York. [The] high-brow twosome also took in a play, God of Carnage.”

The next night, God of Carnage received the Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for Marcia Gay Harden, and Best Direction of a Play for Matthew Warchus.

God of Carnage is described as a comedy without manners.

Two ostensibly civilized married couples meet up to sort out a playground fight. The son of one couple (Jeff Daniels and Hope Davis) has broken two of the teeth of the son of another (James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden). At first diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses and the rum flows, huge tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving more than just their liberal principles in tatters.
