Cyberstalker Sentenced to 26 Months Jail Term

Australian County Court Judge Lisa Hannan handed down a pretty heavy sentence on cyberstalker Tanya Maree Quattrocchi, 23, who “admitted to hacking into [American Idol contestant Diana] DeGarmo’s MySpace account and hijacking email accounts belonging to the 21-year-old singer.”

It was revealed that Quattrocchi pretended to be the American Idol contestant and sent emails to DeGarmo’s friends and family through her email account. She was also “found to have illegally accessed the singer’s MySpace page more than 700 times in six months.”

Furthermore, “Quattrocchi texted DeGarmo 570 times and called her 369 times in a three-month period.”

It’s interesting to note that Quattrocchi is based in Australia while DeGarmo is still in the United States. Despite the great difference in geographical location, the cyberstalker was still found guilty.

As a matter of fact, this is already the second time that Quattrocchi has been found guilty, although her sentence for the earlier offense consisted of 150 hours of community service with no time spent behind bars.

For her second offense, Quattrocchi was sentenced to 26 months of jail time, although she will be eligible for parole in a year’s time.
