KFC USA FREE Grilled Chicken Coupon Stub Overrun (Ire)

If Oprah mentions a product on her show, there will be reported out of stock situations within days. And, that’s for a PAID product. What more for something that’s free?

KFC USA learned the hard way how popular and effective a marketing tool the Oprah show is when they offered a FREE Grilled Chicken Meal, consisting of 2 pieces Grilled Chicken, 2 Sides and 1 Biscuit, via a printed coupon on the star talk show host’s web site.

E! reports on the fiasco that resulted from an ill-planned promotion that currently requires a massive dose of PR work to rectify.

Four days after Winfrey partnered with the chicken chain and made available to the nation a coupon redeemable for a two-piece grilled meal at the fast-food joint, KFC has cut short the promotion, saying it would no longer be honoring the coupon.

The free meal deal was originally slated to run through May 19.

KFC President Roger Eaton has appeared on KFC’s apology video promising a rain check on the rejected FREE Grilled Chicken coupon stubs, with the addition of a FREE drink.

In the meantime, Pollo Loco has taken the KFC nightmare into a dream situation for the chicken company.

With reports pouring in about KFC franchises’ refusing to honor free grilled chicken coupons, El Pollo Loco has responded on Twitter by offering to honor KFC’s “1234″ coupons on Mother’s Day.
