Knowing Film Takes Unexpected Turn from Action Thriller

Warning: This post contains spoilers.

I was prepared to be drawn into the supernatural since the trailer’s premise was to discover how a piece of paper filled with numbers from five decades ago accurately predicted catastrophes from its location, actual date to the number of casualties. However, I was unprepared for the unexpected turn of the Nicolas Cage starrer from a thriller into an exposition of alien and religion theories.

Thus, my attention waned as the explanation of the basic storyline unfolded into the popular alien theory of what humans consider as gods, goddesses and angels, are, in reality, a group of “guardian aliens” who are knowledgeable of the future and use such knowledge to safeguard life in the universe.

Therefore, once it has been determined that a solar flare will end life on planet Earth, a male and a female child were chosen to be “saved” by the aliens from the natural disaster, who turned out to be the son of Nicolas Cage, named Caleb (a very Biblical name that should have given me a clue where the film was headed but I didn’t heed its implications), and the granddaughter of the woman who wrote the “catastrophe” paper.

As if the Biblical implication of the chosen ones wasn’t enough, the film showed a sequence of the children running through a field of golden grass towards a silver tree, a classic image of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

In the film Knowing, it is the beginning of human life on another planet under the guidance of alien gods.
