AFP Theater Pedestrian Gate No Slippers Allowed Rule

I was running late for the Tanghalang Pilipino production of Mga Gerilya ng Powell St. that was going to be performed at the AFP Theater inside the military base of Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City. As I entered the pedestrians’ gate hurriedly on 30 March 2009, I was halted for inspection and informed that slippers are not allowed inside the base.
True enough, I was wearing my Islander slippers, so I requested if I could be forgiven my first offense and be allowed inside the compound. My appeal was denied.
Since there was a market nearby, I decided to hurry and find some sandals, which the military officers informed me were acceptable, or putting on socks would do as well.
Fortunately, I didn’t need to go all the way to the market because right across the street from the pedestrians’ entrance in Gate 1 of Camp Emilio Aguinaldo were small stores that sold footwear.
I made sure to make a big show of showing off my Php 60 sandals with plastic flowers as I entered the gate, and, with a slight smile from the officer, I was allowed to pass through.
As I walked briskly towards the AFP Theater to watch the Tanghalang Pilipino production of Mga Gerilya ng Powell St., I observed that a lot of people were wearing what could be called “slippers,” except that their version was more “classy.”
So, that’s something to remember for future shows at the theater based in the military compound. If you’re going to catch a show at the AFP Theater, and you have to pass through the entrance for pedestrians in Gate 1, wear “classy” slippers.
I would like to thank Ms. Madeleine Nicolas for kindly remembering my interest to watch the show and being generous enough to text me an invitation.

I had the same experience once but this time I’m wearing sandals. There was an event in AFP Theater so there’s a large influx of visitors coming to the entrance of the pedestrian lane. Since I live inside the camp I’m familiar with rules and regulations and I know that sandals are permitted. As I pass the entrance for inspection, I was halted by an angry lady who wear slippers. She shouted “Bat yan nakapasok” then the guard inspected my sandals which is almost like a shoes with minimal straps. Same story the guard denied my entry even though I explained to him that I’m wearing ‘Sandals’ and it doesnt state that ‘Sandals’ are not permitted so called my dad to pick me up in the entrance end of story
