Baz Luhrmann Directs Musical Number With Oscar host Hugh Jackman gleefully announcing, “The musical is back,” Australia director, Baz Luhrmann, harnesses the singing and dancing talents of High School Musical stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, Mamma Mia sweethearts Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper, and powerhouse singer Beyonce to join Hugh Jackman in a musical theatre inspired number during the Oscars show.

Snippets from West Side Story, Sound of Music, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Sweet Charity, Singing in the Rain, High School Musical and others can be heard during the most lavish musical number that had the gentlemen in top hats and coats, while the ladies donned tights, heels and sequins.

Presence in WALL-E The acceptance speech of Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature Film WALL-E, director Andrew Stanton, reveals the strong influence of musical theatre, “I guess I’d be remiss if I did not thank my high school drama teacher Phil Perry for 28 years ago casting me as Barnaby in Hello, Dolly!. Creative seeds are sown in the oddest of places.”
