PETA Theater and the Onstage Heated Pool

With the summer heat, I can’t help remembering the first time I watched a play at the PETA theater and saw actor Julienne Mendoza submerge himself in a mini-pool that was chest high and approximately four feet in length during the play Disyembre. He even had props of clear plastic balls with flashing lights that floated on top of the water.
When I talked with Julienne after the show, I asked how cold was the water, recalling swimming in pools that can make one’s teeth chatter if its depths have not yet been warmed by the sun.
Surprisingly, he said that the water was heated. OMG! The pool onstage was heated! Wow!
Before we left, I had to express my gratitude to Disyembre director Nonon Padilla for the mesmerizing sight of an actor swirling in water while saying his lines, “Thank you very much for another wonderful theatrical experience!”
And, thanks again to Julienne for having us as his guests!
