Starbucks USA 3 Hour Shutdown All 7,100 USA based Starbucks Coffee shops shut down for a three hour period starting at 5.30pm last 26 February 2008.
CBS reports that the closure is due to “barista re-education†and to energize baristas “to share their (Starbucks management) passion for making espresso, or, to pull the perfect shot, steam milk to order and customize their (customers’) favorite beverage.â€
Doubts Re Starbucks Closure ABC has quoted an espresso expert as saying that the Starbucks short term closure has “got nothing to do with the art of making coffee.â€
Just a PR Stunt gawker.com dismisses the move as nothing more than a PR stunt with the media being “played like a violin.â€
Starbucks Faces Stiff Competition CNN discloses that “Starbucks has seen rising competition from privately-held Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonalds recently, and welcomed founder Schultz back as CEO in January after a lackluster performance by the company in the latter half of 2007.â€
True to form, Dunkin’ Donuts has taken advantage of the coffee shortage that day by offering small lattes, cappuccinos or espresso drinks for a promotional price of 99 cents.
