The Spiderwick Chronicles with Freddie Highmore
Wow! They Look Alike! As we watched The Spiderwick Chronicles yesterday, 17 February 2008, at Robinsons Galleria, I marveled that the casting people were able to find a child actor who looked like Freddie Highmore, because the two of them were so believable as the Grace twins — Jared and Simon.
Oh, they’re twins! And then, I deemed that Freddie Highmore and his co-actor looked too much alike to be strangers, so, I deduced that all this time Freddie Highmore has a twin that I didn’t know about; and the child actor whom I believed has been performing singularly has been acting alternately for the couple of movies that I’ve seen him in, such as, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Five Children and It, which is quite a common practice for TV and film productions.
It’s Just One Actor! But, as I gazed upon their faces, I was puzzled, because, even identical twins have slight differences in their features. And then, it dawned on me. Only one actor is playing the Grace twins— Freddie Highmore.
Father and Son Scene Not only are his Grace twins’ characterizations distinct, but, also, Freddie Highmore’s acting was devoid of the “cute” mannerisms that plague other child actors. I was blown away by the dark quiet intensity that Jared Grace questioned his father in one scene in The Spiderwick Chronicles. Magnificent!
Son of an Actor and a Talent Agent Although one might say that Freddie Highmore is lucky to be the son of an actor and a talent agent, one cannot deny that this is one talented actor; and, his work in the critically acclaimed film Finding Neverland will be just the first of many.
