Metrobank Cash Deposit to Regional Account (Ire)

Last 08 February 2008 2pm, I stared at the Php 150 the Metrobank P. Tuazon branch teller had slid towards me.

I had given her Php 5,000 for a Php 4,800 deposit so I was expecting Php 200. The teller explained that since the Metrobank account I was making a deposit to was a regional one, I was going to be charged Php 50.

Unclear Condition I protested that she did not inform me about the fact that the Metrobank account was a regional one and the consequent Php 50 charge.

The Metrobank teller said she mentioned it while doing the transaction.

However, what she considered as informing the client gave me the impression that she was muttering under her breath while intermittently saying a comment to her fellow co-tellers, because she did not talk directly to me nor make eye contact, and I didn’t understand a word she said. And, she did not get my assent, as in I didn’t say yes to the transaction of being charged Php 50.

Metrobank Cash vs. Check for Regional Deposit Moreover, when I asked whether I would have been charged if I had deposited via check, the answer was no. Since I had my check book with me, it was more logical for me to have paid via check. And I said so to the Metrobank teller.

Talk with the Metrobank P. Tuazon Branch Manager Since the Metrobank teller kept saying, “Naipasok na (It’s been deposited),” I talked with the Metrobank P. Tuazon branch manager regarding the situation.

Metrobank Check Deposit to Regional Account The cash deposit and consequent Php 50 charge was cancelled and a check deposit was credited instead. Moreover, even though it was beyond the cut off date, the check was considered as a deposit for the day. Of course, I expressed my gratitude and appreciation for the Metrobank P. Tuazon Branch Manager’s actions.

SMS to Supplier I informed my supplier as well regarding the Php 50 charge and the fact that the check will clear three days later. Also, thankfully, the supplier replied that she will provide me with a Metro Manila bank account for future deposits.

Question However, can someone please explain to me why a cash deposit, which is considered more liquid and usually credited immediately to an account, will be charged a fee while a check deposit won’t be for a regional bank account?

Hi, the reason of metro bank chargin cash deposit is that the cash would be a liab on their account since it will be kept in the vault (no interest will be earned), while if it is a check it will be creditted on their bsp account ( interest will be earned). Although it is just a small amount if, all depositors will do interbranch and maybe others would deposit large amount. it would cost a lot to the bank maintaining the said amount and the same time riskier.
