The Unexpectedly Charming Juno
Ignorance is Bliss Do NOT ask what Juno is all about. Even having the vaguest idea of what the story is will make you NOT go.
Oscar Nomination for Best Actress Just go into the theater knowing that a female actor in the cast is nominated for an Oscar, which is what I did.
And later on, you’ll learn that Juno is also nominated for other stuff. By the way, Jennifer Garner of TV’s Alias fame surprised me in this film. And no, she’s not the one nominated. Some other girl named Ellen Page is. I’m trying to be nonchalant, and not quite successfully at that, of whom A. O. Scott of the New York Times described as being “frighteningly talented.”
After you’ve seen the movie, watch Ellen Page befuddle David Letterman when she became a guest on his show last 03 January 2008.
Who is Fox Searchlight? On a little side note, as the film Juno began, I was upset when I heard the all too familiar music that preceded every Star Wars film being played to graphics saying Fox Searchlight instead of 20th Century Fox. What happened to 20th Century Fox? Has it been demolished in some company takeover?
I was relieved to learn via the Internet that Fox Searchlight is a “specialty film division” of 20th Century Fox that produces and/or distributes “indie” films. Incidentally, Fox Searchlight also produced the currently showing film The Darjeeling Limited, which stars Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody.
Not Heeding My Own Advice Wait a minute, I’ve said too much already. Just go and be unexpectedly charmed by Juno.
And, may I add, Happy Valentine’s Day!
