Western Union Payment via PBCom & EBusiness Services
I have been warned about Western Union payments here in the Philippines, but, author Louis L’Amour has shaped my romantic notions of Western Union. Western Union stood for dependability and trustworthiness for American cowboys in the late 19th century, and I wanted to experience that legacy and continue a longstanding tradition.
Philippine Bank of Communications Ali Mall Excitedly, I ventured into the Philippine Bank of Communications Ali Mall armed with the sender’s name, money transfer control number and my two ID’s, namely, my driver’s license and passport.
Two things to consider when collecting from PBCom: first, PBCom pays in dollars only; second, any amount less than one dollar will not be part of the payment. (Please see PBCom’s reply below.)
Although one can understand that the most probable reason why the bank does not wish to pay the cents portion is because it does not wish to hold an inventory of coins; in principle, it doesn’t seem right that one should not be paid the full amount.
At the PBCom’s customer service representative’s suggestion, I went to another Western Union agent within the Cubao area.
EBusiness Services Farmers Plaza There was no line at EBusiness Services Farmers Plaza. The only delay was when the teller asked me to confirm that the sender’s name is Google. It was probably her first time to be requested for a Google Adsense payment.
It took approximately ten minutes for EBusiness Services to process the payment transaction. Plus, the exchange rate was pretty good, and, as someone pointed out, probably much higher than if I had exchanged the dollars in a bank.
Lhuillier Pawnshop Rustan’s Superstore Arcade I was elated that my very first Western Union experience was everything that I had hoped for.
Now I’m willing to try another agent. What tickles my fancy is the possibility of collecting at an ungodly hour like 3am from the 24 hour Lhuillier Pawnshop at the Rustan’s Superstore Arcade.

Hi!
Thank you very much for your comment about your experience with our PBCom Cubao Branch. I already talked to our Cubao Branch Head and requested her to investigate what transpired during your visit in our branch. I would appreciate if you could provide me the time and the day you visited our Branch and if you could remember the name of the person that assisted you.
Just want to correct some info relayed to you by our branch: we can pay your Western Union Remittance both in PESOS AND IN DOLLARS, should you wish to be paid in dollars, you are right, we will give you the full amount in dollars, in the event that the remittance will require us to pay you in cents, since most banks in the Philippines does not carry cents in their inventory, we pay you the equivalent amount in pesos.
Thank you for considering PBCom and we hope to be of service to you soon.
Dear Mr. Reyes,
