Colostrum from New Zealand
For my doctor, Dr. Margaret Lim, an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist with a subspecialty in Allergy, and a member of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology, the choice of Colostrum was a very personal search, for she knew that her recommendation would be a very critical choice.
So she enlisted the help of her doctor husband (also an ENT specialist) in searching for the best choice currently available in the Philippine market. By using themselves as guinea pigs, they whittled down the choice to a New Zealand product called MAXI Immuno Plus Colostrum capsules. (Note that there is no empirical evidence available, and her conclusions are based on an unscientific process.)
Presence of Immunoglobulins Honestly, I have never heard of Colostrum until Dr. Margaret Lim mentioned it during a consultation. With my low immune system, what makes colostrum significant to me is the fact that colostrum has been found to contain immunoglobulins “that are effective in fighting bacterial and viral infections (colds, flu, etc.).”
All colostrum products will have this product claim. However, in addition, New Zealand’s Maxi Immuno Plus points out other considerations regarding its product (Source: All quotations are from the Maxi Immuno Plus brochure):
Pasture Fed Cattle “Pasture feeding exposes cows to the live enzymes and nutrients found in the soil, which makes them produce more antibodies to disease causing pathogens in their colostrums.”
Pesticide Free, Hormone and Antibiotic Free “Use of hormones and antibiotics with cattle is ILLEGAL in New Zealand. And New Zealand has never had a recorded case of mad cow’s disease.”
Vegetarian Capsules “Vegetable capsules have a very low moisture content, which can provide better protection for the integrity of the bio-active components found in colostrum.”
Where You Can Buy Maxi Immuno Plus What is highly amusing is the fact that Maxi Immuno Plus is available in Bare Essentials, a sex shop that caters to women, which might be a cause of concern for some individuals.
Price Another concern is the Php 2,900 tag price for the colostrum vegetarian capsules. Look at it this way, it’s Php 32/capsule. At one to two colostrum capsules a day, taking the supplement will always be cheaper than getting sick and having to buy medicine, or, worse, ending up in the hospital.
