Free SMART WiFi at Araneta Center (Eye)
The newspaper ad on 06 January 2008 announcing the Free SMART WiFi at Araneta Center made me excited. Fortunately, my laptop was with me at the time and I had a meeting in Cibo Gateway Mall in the afternoon so it seemed like an opportune time to test it out.
According to Araneta Center, “SMART’s hotzoning feature is now available for free at Gateway Mall and in the perimeters of Araneta Coliseum, Shopwise Araneta Center, and in the area of Ali Mall (along Times Square and General McArthur Avenue).”
SMART WiFi at Cibo Gateway Mall The technical ignoramus that I am meant that I had difficulty accessing the free WiFi. We had to ask for assistance from Gateway Mall’s Head Concierge Jun Fuentes.
Finally, I got connected, but the connection was very slow, so slow it’s even slower than my dial up. (Yes, folks, I’m still on dial up.)
SMART WiFi at Starbucks Ali Mall Three days later, 09 January 2008, I attempted accessing the Free SMART WiFi from another site, namely, at Starbucks Ali Mall, which Head Concierge Jun Fuentes had mentioned as being part of the hot zone.
However, the SMART WiFi signal was non-existent, which was a major disappointment because I had visions of typing away on my laptop while intermittently taking a bite or a sip of my Starbucks fare.
Araneta Center Improvement Nevertheless, despite the slow connection or the non-existent signal, I applaud the recognition that offering free access to the Internet is a major marketing tool. It can only improve…
