Star Trek First Lady Passes Away At 76

With the impending rebirth of the Star Trek series in May 2009, the passing away of the wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, female actor Majel Barrett Roddenberry, seems premature.

The well-loved supporter of the Star Trek franchise and its fans, Trekkies, have a long standing relationship, “It was her love for the fans, and their love in return that kept her going for so long after my father passed away,” explains son Eugene Roddenberry Jr.

Aside from serving as muse of the late legendary author and the unofficial First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett has also offered her acting and voice talents to the ground breaking sci-fi series, “Majel was perhaps best known as Nurse Chapel on the original “Star Trek” series, which ran from 1966 to 1969, as well as playing counselor Deanna Troi’s mother, Lwaxana Troi, in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and the providing voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every incarnation of the series, including J.J. Abrams’ new big-screen take on ‘Star Trek,’ in theaters this coming summer.”

Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away in Los Angeles surrounded by family and friends. She was 76.
