Avenue Q Actor Felix Rivera Compares Manila & Singapore Audiences

Avenue Q Actor Felix Rivera describes the Singapore audiences as “very generous in terms of responding” and were “very expressive,” but, there was nervous laughter when his alter ego, closet gay investment banker Rod, reveals that he’s attracted to the same sex, although they eventually cheered when he openly declares, “I’m gay!”

And, since it’s a different culture, the Singaporeans laughed at different points during the musical. For recent graduate Princeton, the audience would normally gasp when he says, “But I don’t want a girlfriend until I figure out my mission in life.”

Laughter would immediately follow the line “I earned this useless degree,” which, Felix Rivera beams, is “a good gauge whether the people would… laugh at the whole show.”
