Joaquin Phoenix and Michael de Mesa Say Goodbye to Acting

Joaquin Phoenix ET or Entertainment Tonight reports that the Academy Award nominee has declared that “he is retiring from acting to focus on music.”

Michael de Mesa Meanwhile, Gibbs Cadiz has interviewed the well-respected actor and writes that “Come January 2009, he’ll [Michael de Mesa] start work as a marketing executive for an ambulance company–a job he had tried, and enjoyed, some time back when he stayed for a month in America.”

Niccolo Manahan These reports remind me of a conversation with Repertory Philippines thespian Niccolo Manahan during the recent Eduardo “Toto” Sicangco exhibit opening at the Ayala Museum, where he shared that he has taken a leave from acting as he tries his hand at being an Account Executive. I teased him with a farewell, “See you — back at the theatre!”

Three actors. Gone. Hopefully — just for a long moment till the acting siren call lures them back.
