Cultural Center of the Philippines Clinic Opens During CCP Shows (Eye)

Lorna Lopez's wounded leg A Twisted Ankle and A Couple of Wounds – There was only 15 minutes left before the start of Ballet Philippines’ La Revolucion Filipina last 20 September 2008, so my niece and I hurried to the well hidden clinic in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) with the help of an usher.

The CCP Clinic nurse, Ms. Rhea Lazo, cleaned the wounds, applied antiseptic and antibiotic, then covered them with some bandages. Her calm accommodating manner, plus her constant consultation and information about what she was about to do, made her an excellent medical professional. I also gleaned from her that the CCP Clinic is always open whenever there is a show within the premises.

And how did I get the wounds in the first place? I was walking on the sidewalk leading towards CCP, when I slipped at the very edge, twisted my ankle, fell to my knees and scraped my leg against the broken pavement.

Knowing my genetic propensity for not healing well and the possibility of scarring, I asked the CCP ushers where I could have assistance for my bleeding wounds, thus, the short visit to the clinic.

Thanks to Rhea Lazo’s deft touch and applied medicines, my wounds have healed nicely. I would also like to thank my young niece, Kara Lopez, for being so patient and consenting to go with me to the CCP Clinic. We arrived at the Main Theater as the ballet was about to start so we weren’t able to sit in our proper seats. To her credit, Kara didn’t say anything except to say she was worried that her parents might look for her.

Thank you very much, Rhea and Kara! :-)

Good that I did not note anything wrong with your ankle when I saw during the Magic Flute. It seemed to have recovered very well.

This article caught my attention because I had been on duty here in this CCP clinic years back, assigned by one of our consultants. I was able to watch an “El Filibusterismo” production in the Little Theater at that time.

Thanks also to this same consultant, I was also able to watch PEARL JAM in their wildly amazing concert at the Folk Arts Theater, in a medic capacity BACKSTAGE. I actually stood side by side with Eddie Vedder. That was a truly awesome experience!
