Super Bowl Gateway Mall Too Few Staff Members (Ire)
Philippine Daily Inquirer’s The Quiet Diner noted today, 25 September 2008, regarding the staff of Super Bowl Gateway Mall, “Very unsatisfactory service. We noted only about five people serving, surely not enough to cover a big hall, most of them giving customers their backs. It was so difficult to call their attention.”
This comment, aside from a couple more about the Super Bowl service, merited the Gateway Mall branch the lowest rating from The Quiet Diner.
What is sad about this incident is it could have been avoided if the manager had taken steps regarding my suggestions that were made months ago.
I arrived around 11.30am on a Sunday at the Super Bowl Gateway Mall to order take out for a family lunch. Since I arrived early and was just waiting for my order to be filled, it gave me the freedom to observe the restaurant’s activities.
There was one glaring fact that needed to be shared with management. Before I left, I took the manager aside and pointed out that there were not enough staff members serving the clients. First, all incoming groups, which ranged from six to twenty people, were not met by a staff member. The hungry clients were all forced to fend for themselves as to where to sit, which tables to put together, etc.
Second, none of the clients’ requests could be relayed to a waiting staff member because none could be found at the floor at several points, since most of them were in the kitchen getting the orders.
The manager explained that she had scheduled majority of the staff members to arrive at 12noon, and I pointed out to her that the call time is way too late to serve a hungry lunch crowd efficiently.
If the management of Super Bowl Gateway Mall had really listened to my observations, they would not have ended up with such a poor rating on a national broadsheet.
