La Boheme Manila Director Floy Quintos Enumerates the Philippine Opera Company Cast
After the first run through rehearsal of La Boheme Manila on 01 October 2008, the group of press, Internet writers and bloggers that I had invited gathered at the CCP Main Theater to be regaled by director Floy Quintos with interesting tidbits about the Philippine Opera Company production of La Boheme.
In almost total darkness, Floy Quintos graciously answered questions from everyone. To make sure that the articles and posts were credited correctly, I raised the question as to who among the cast performed that night.
Floy Quintos charmingly answered the simple question and peppered it with trivia about the cast. Gary del Rosario, who has played the role of Rodolfo for five different opera companies, partnered Jennifer Uy’s Mimi, who, apparently, can sing both opera and R & B, and is known for mastering a set of Alicia Keys songs.
Floy also informed the small crowd that the daughter of film director, acting coach and actor Laurice Guillen with renowned actor Johnny Delgado, Ana Feleo, played the “putatsing” role of Musetta. He amused the people further when he told them about the concern of Lawrence Jatayna, who sings the character of Marcello, that his small frame might look amusing beside Ana Feleo’s taller frame. Floy had to assure him that he was “sexy” and looked like he “can satisfy a big girl.”
Also in the cast were tenors Juan Alberto Gaerlan and Dondi Ong as Rodolfo. Maribel Miguel alternated with Jennifer Uy as Mimi, while soprano Elaine Lee also performed as Musetta. Jesus “Nonon” Baang played Marcello as well. And the legendary Nomer Son sang the roles of the landlord and the rich man.
