FBI Arrests Blogger & NBI Raids Game Developer

In the light of the recent win of Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling, in her case against the site owner of a planned publication of a Harry Potter Lexicon, Copyright Infringement is a very serious matter that we, as Internet denizens, should take note of.

FBI Arrests Blogger Another recent incident was the FBI arrest of a blogger, on 27 August 2008, who admitted to posting yet to be released nine Guns ‘N Roses songs on Antiquiet.com for a period before taking them down.

For suspected violations of federal copyright laws, blogger Kevin Cogill’s house was raided for evidence before he himself was arrested.

NBI Raids Game Developer On the other hand, Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that on 22 August 2008, the “National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) raided the office of Philippine game development company Anino Games Inc. for alleged software copyright infringement.”

Although Anino Games President Niel Dagondon confirmed the NBI raid, he also requested AutoDesk, the alleged software owner in question, “to help companies like them find viable solutions” since the “reputation of Philippine offshore service providers” will be damaged and will affect an industry that is composed of “dollar-earning companies whose clients are mainly based abroad.”
