Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Postponed to July 2009

According to E! Online, Warner Brothers President Alan Horn has attributed two reasons for the decision to move the opening of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince from 21 November 2008 to 17 July 2009.

First is the writer’s strike. “Like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of.”

Second is the excellent timing of a summer release. “We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment.”

Of course, as a logical rational adult, I can understand the reasoning behind the decision, but the Harry Potter fan in me couldn’t care less, and is demanding for its scheduled release on 21 November 2008. :-(
