Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer

The decision to focus the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer on Voldemort’s early life is only fitting since the sixth book of the Harry Potter series is mainly about revealing clues to his past. However, instead of becoming compassionate to his travails, the peek into young Voldemort’s life only serves to highlight the malevolence which permeates his very existence, thus, making him even more repugnant and repulsively fascinating.

The disturbing performance turned in by the young Voldemort is done by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, the nephew of renowned actor Ralph Fiennes, who, incidentally, plays the adult Voldemort. Although the resemblance between the two actors was a factor in his casting, director David Yates says, “[Primarily], I went for Hero because of this wonderful haunted quality that seemed to bring Tom Riddle alive on screen for us.”

I’m worried now whether my young nephew and niece, whom I’ve promised to treat to this movie, will be able to watch this without cowering in fear…
