High School Musical The Ice Tour Breaking Free Video
Leaving Disappointed Instead of feeling the usual high after watching a Disney Ice Tour show and exclaiming, “That was so good!” over and over again, I was relieved to have the High School Musical The Ice Tour show end for the 12 July 2008 1pm performance at the Araneta Coliseum.
Excellent Creative Staff Not that the music or the choreography was wanting. Actually, the concept of combining the two High School Musical shows is brilliant. The two level set, with its metal props and video wall, is perfect for the show. The famous High School Musical moves are adapted exceptionally well for an ice skating program.
Where’s the Commitment? What was missing was the commitment from its performers. Except for the ice skaters playing Sharpay (Helena Granberg), Ryan (Vyacheslav Chiliy) and Troy (Victor Ehre), plus a couple from the ensemble, the cast was lackadaisical and perfunctory.
Gabriella (Gladys Orozco), in particular, lacked the commitment to perform with the high level energy required for this show. She only picked up by the latter part of Act 1, almost halfway through the show, when the Breaking Free number was shown. (It’s my guess she received a note from her stage manager.)
As for the ensemble, I was irritated with their non-sharp moves and desultory energy despite the fact that their characters are high school kids. If these are newbies, then they should be reminded that their other Disney ice skating counterparts have to perform with heavy costumes and stifling masks, and numerous costume changes, like in Mickey and Minnie’s Amazing Journey, yet they did so with astounding professionalism and overflowing energy.
A Hope I’m hoping their stage manager will take them to task and remind the cast of their duties as performers so that the rest of the High School Musical The Ice Tour Manila shows will be the breathtaking performances that they should be.
Watch out for the Disney Princesses The Ice Tour in 2009!

Just want to say thanks again for the discount coupons that you so generously gave us. We were able to watch the 8pm show last Saturday night and my daughter enjoyed it very much. Too bad the souvenirs were way too expensive and i was not convinced by her to buy anything. Hehe.
You’re welcome. And I’m glad your daughter enjoyed it. And I know what you mean with the souvenir prices. I must admit that I splurged on a Php 300 program. At least I know that will surely last for years.
who played chad danforth on the ICE TOUR? i noticed it was different from the souvenir program…
Hi Frank. I got the names from an Inquirer article yesterday, 13 July 2008, but it only mentioned the names of the four leads, so I’m afraid I don’t know who played Chad Danforth. Sorry.
The P300 program you splurged on did not mention the cast members? I guess they do not play the same roles in all countries they visit?
I do not think I will be able to watch this one anymore because of our hectic schedule this week. Thank you for the review and video.
Hi Fred,
I’m guessing that there are different groups of ice skaters that are sent out at the same time to tour the world. However, since the programs need to be printed much earlier before the casting could be finalized, they opted not to print the names. The ice skaters pictured on the program are not the ones who performed here in Manila.
I hope you can still catch it though.
